Berlin

Berlin loves its graffiti and brutalist slabs of concrete. It’s a place where you can easily see the Russian and German cultures swirl together in a way that doesn’t feel like Germany or Russia — Berlin is just Berlin. A bit rough around the edges, but when you take a deeper look, it captivates you with its charm and charisma.

Your first order of action when arriving in Berlin is to open your mind and simply wander. Take the opportunity to check out some live music at one of Berlin’s many music venues or spend the day curled up in one of the many coffee shops. We really enjoyed walking around the neighbourhood’s of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg due to the abundance of unique shops and restaurants.

The city is massive! There are about 4,000 people per square km. Compare that to London’s 5,700 and Madrid’s 5,300 people per square km. In other words — a metro card is a must! Once you master the metro, you will find that it’s fairly easy to get around the city. Don’t forget to punch your metro card! (If not punched, you can receive a fine).

What to do:

  • Get lost in Friedrichshain Kreuzberg — the hippest neighbourhood.

  • View the beautifully graffitied Berlin Wall.

  • Check out the iconic Brandenburg Gate.

  • Walk around the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.

  • Wonder around the Soviet War Memorial Treptow.

  • Feast in Markthalle Neun — an awesome warehouse market with great food and design.

  • Catch a concert at one of the many music venues — Columbiahalle, Quasimodo Club

  • If you’re feeling frisky and bold, try Berghain, the place where even getting turned away is a badge of honor
